NW POWER POP & PUNK (NWPPP) VOLUME 1 COMPILATION!
The world has always considered the Pacific Northwest a quiet, grey and wet corner of the country. Our geography being too far off the beaten path for most of the mainstream to explore its art and music. That all changed in the early 1990's with the rise of "grunge,". the Northwest's brand of music that has its origins in the amalgamation of Black Sabbath and Black Flag. And because of this influence by, and appreciation of both metal and punk, in 2015 NW Metalworx Music picked up the banner for 1970-1990's hard rock and metal to bring to light some of the music that informed bands like Nirvana, Soundgarden and Alice in Chains. In 2025, Metalworx took up mantel for the "other" scene that informed the Seattle sounds of the 90's: Punk Rock, Power Pop and New Wave. We created a new arm of the label called, NW Power Pop & Punk. It is our aim to uncover and present the music of these genres that have been lost or undiscovered. NWPP&P newest release is a compilation of 14 bands and 14 songs from the late 1970's to the early 90's. Some of these artists you may have heard of, but some of them will be unfamiliar to some listeners. But all of these bands played a role in shaping the sound of the Northwest's most well-known scene.
